PRESENTES . GIFTS

As miúdas tiveram várias festas de anos este fim-de-semana e eu achei que seria uma boa oportunidade para dar às suas amigas presentes feitos em casa. Depois de folhear os meus livros de costura optei por fazer “saias ciganas”. (Não gosto nada deste nome! Tenho que arranjar outro. Alguma sugestão?).

 

São bastante fáceis e rápidas de executar mas o mais divertido é encontrar tecidos e fitas que conjuguem bem. Gosto de juntar bolas, riscas, flores, xadrez…

O modelo foi tirado do fantástico livro “Costura de palmo e Meio” e desta vez não lhe fiz grandes alterações.

E foi bom voltar a fazer e coser etiquetas das “windygirls” em novas roupas…

Teresa and Ines had several birthday parties this weekend and I thought it would be a good opportunity to give their friends homemade gifts. After flipping through my sewing books I decided to make these simple but cute gipsy skirts.
These skirts are quite fast and easy to sew but the think I like the most is to find the matching fabrics and ribbons to make them. I just love to put together polka dots, stripes, flowers, vichy...
The pattern is from the fantastic book "Making Children’s Clothes" by Emma Hardy and this time I made no major changes to the original design.
And it was so nice to sew my "windygirls" labels in these new clothes...

COSTA VICENTINA

O fim-de-semana passado estive numa das zonas de Portugal de que mais gosto: a Costa Vicentina. Com o pretexto de ir ao casamento da Catarina na Carrapateira aproveitei para revisitar algumas das praias mais bonitas que já vi e onde passei muitos verões de prancha e vela às costas. Aqui fica uma fotografia da Praia do Amado só para abrir o apetite!

Para o meu amigo João, que simpaticamente me hospedou, resolvi pintar uma t-shirt. Para um homem é sempre tão difícil arranjar um presente… Achei que se ele não gostasse pelo menos podia usar como pijama!

 Usei uma técnica muito básica porque queria um padrão repetitivo e simples. Colando um pouco de fita-cola à parte de trás de um botão fiz um carimbo. Fui carimbando com tinta branca e azul até gostar do resultado. Foi um trabalho algo estranho porque normalmente preparo os meus projetos mas este foi feito de forma mais intuitiva. Achei que ele ia achar graça a ter uma etiqueta das WINDYGIRLS por isso cosi-a na frente da t-shirt.

Um dia ainda vou desenvolver esta técnica de estampagem porque me diverti imenso com as tintas e o carimbo improvisado. Tenho também dado uma vista de olhos nos blogs de pintura em tecido e visto coisas incríveis. Vejam só estes incríveis trabalhos destas senhoras: Jessica Jones (vejam as suas experiencias com a Inkodye), Lara Cameron, Leslie Keating, Kristen Doran e Lotta Jansdotter.

Last weekend I’ve been to one of my favorite places in Portugal: Costa Vicentina. With the excuse of of attending my friend’s Catarina weeding in Carrapateira I took the opportunity to revisit some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen and where I spent many summers with my windsurf board. Here is a picture of Amado Beach just to whet your appetite! For my friend João, who kindly hosted me, I decided to paint a t-shirt. For a man it is always so hard to find a gift ... I thought that if he did not like it, at least I could wear it as pajamas!  I’ve used a very basic technique because I wanted a simple repeating pattern. To make the stamp I’ve just pasted a bit of tape to the back of a button. Then I just started stamping till I was pleased with the result. It was kind of an odd kind of work because normally prepare my projects but this time I just “went with the flow”. I thought he would be amused to have a WINDYGIRLS label so I sewed it in the front of the shirt. One day I'll develop this technique as I had a great time printing with this improvised stamp. I also took a look at some fabric painting blogs and saw some inspiring stuff. Look at the amazing work of these ladies: Jessica Jones (see her experiences with Inkodye), LaraCameron, Leslie Keating, Kristen Doran and Lotta Jansdotter.

WINDYGIRLS

A primeira encomenda da feira do Jardim da Estrela está pronta! São dois vestidos feitos de camisas de homem com mangas em tecidos “Liberty of London”. Como são para a mesma menina resolvi fazer duas variantes do mesmo modelo: um tem os botões na frente e outro nas costas e um tem a faixa no tecido das mangas e outro no tecido da camisa.

The first order from “Jardim da Estrela” Street Market is ready! Two dresses made from men's shirts with sleeves on "Liberty of London” fabrics. As they are for the same girl I decided to sew two variants of the same model: one has the buttons on the front and the other in the back and one has a sash made of the sleeves’s fabric and the other of the shirt’s fabric.

MERCADO TEXTURAS E CORES . TEXTURES AND COLORS MARKET

Foi decisão de última hora mas valeu apena. Este fim-de-semana estive no “Mercado de texturas e cores” organizado pela Arquitexturas no Jardim da Estrela para comemorar os 75 anos das Bibliotecas Municipais de Jardim.
Estiveram dois dias perfeitos de jardim e no domingo, com oOut Jazz, o ambiente não podia estar mais simpático e animado. É bom, mas ainda estranho, ver os jardins de Lisboa usados como vemos usar os jardins do norte da europa. Algumas pessoas a apanhar sol, outras simplesmente a conversar mas todas sentadas ou deitadas na relva como antes só se via na praia.

Além das simpáticas meninas da organização, tive como vizinhas de “banca” as artesãs do “Herbário do Colibri” e da “Pinknounou”. Vejam o trabalho delas porque vale mesmo apena!
No domingo de manhã fomos em família e as miúdas adoraram brincar no jardim e ajudar a tomar conta da loja. Foi divertido…

It was a last minute decision but it was worth it. This weekend I’ve been to the "Textures and Colors Market" organized by Arquitexturas in Lisbon´s beautiful “Estrela” Garden to celebrate 75 years of the Municipal Garden Libraries.
The weather was perfect both days and on Sunday, with the Out Jazz, the atmosphere could not be better. It's good, but still strange, to see the gardens of Lisbon used as the ones from northern Europe. Some people sunbathing, others just talking, but all sitting or lying on the grass as here it was only possible to see on the beach.
As neighbors I had the girls that organized the event and the crafters from “Herbario do Colibri” and “Pinknounou”. Take a look at their great work!
On Sunday morning Ze, Teresa and Ines joined me. The girls helped me to take care of the “store” and loved to play in the garden. It was fun...

MARIA

Mais uma camisa de homem transformada em vestido. A camisa base é Oxford azul-turquesa mas mudei os botões, juntei uma saia de flores e uma espécie de cinto em “grega”.

Desta vez é para a Maria e vai juntar-se ao top que a mãe já lhe tinha comprado na feira de Nova Oeiras.

One more man's shirt turned into a dress. It is a turquoise oxford shirt but I’ve changed the buttons, added a skirt with flowers and a kind of belt made with ric rac tape.
It is for Maria and it will join the top that her mother already bought at the Nova Oeiras street market.

FEIRA DE RUA . STREET MARKET

Domingo as windygirls estrearam-se na feira de rua organizada pela AMNO. Como sempre, o ambiente estava fantástico e havia muitas bancas com coisas giríssimas e deliciosas.

Só o tempo poderia ter estado melhor…

Tive como vizinhos os  Origamers' by Hideas que vendem umas flores de papel lindas e a Carla que faz umas caipirinhas deliciosas (dizem os experts porque eu já não sou muito dada a álcool…).

Tive a ajuda da Rita e da Teresa (que coseu com muita paciência as novas etiquetas…) Muito obrigada! E a visita da Bibica, do Armando, da Gisela, do Zé Guilherme, do António, da Inês e da sua família e, claro, da Inês, da Teresa, do Zé Guilherme (cá de casa) e da minha mãe. Muito obrigada!
Foi um dia bem passado!

Sunday was debut day for the windygirls on AMNO’s street market. As always, the atmosphere was fantastic and there were many stalls with lovely and delicious stuff.
Only the weather could have been better ...
As stall neighbors I had the Origamers'by Hideas selling the most beautiful paper flowers and Carla who makes some delicious "caipirinhas" (that´s the experts opinion as I'm not much into alcohol now...).
I had the help of Rita and Teresa (who sewed the new labels with a lot of patience...) Thank you! And the visit of Bibica, Armando, Gisela, Zé Guilherme, Antonio, Ines and her family and, of course, Ines, Teresa, Zé Guilherme (my home mates!) and my mother. Thank you!
It was a day well spent!

AMNO

As WINDYGIRLS vão fazer a sua primeira feira!

Vai ser em Oeiras, mais precisamente em Nova Oeiras. É uma feira organizada pela associação de moradores local que se chama AMNO e tem website e página no facebook.

O espaço é muito simpático e o ambiente também. Normalmente há música ao vivo e animação para as crianças. Passem por lá!

WINDYGIRLS will be for the first time at a street market!
It will be in Oeiras (near Lisbon, Portugal), more precisely in Nova Oeiras. This street market is organized by the local community association, AMNO. You can check it out at its website or facebook page.
The place is really nice and it has a great atmosphere. There is usually live music and entertainment for children. If you are nearby, join us!

VESTIDO VIÉS . BIAS DRESS

Hoje de manhã estava vento leste. É vento de sol, frio e boas ondas.

À tarde rodou para norte e já se viam vários kites e algumas velas na água.

Finalmente consegui convencer as miúdas a vestir uns vestidos. Foi logo de manhã e por isso têm cabelo e caras de quem acabou de acordar.

This morning the wind was east. That means: sun, chilly temperatures and good waves.

In the afternoon it turned north and it was already possible to see many kites and some sails in the water.

I finally managed to convince the girls to wear the dresses I made. It was early in the morning and they have “just woke up” hair and faces.

PRIMEIRO VESTIDO . FIRST DRESS

Hoje comecei finalmente a fotografar o meu trabalho.
Estava um dia frio e ventoso mas cheio de sol. Não foi fácil manter as roupas no sítio, mesmo abrigadas pelas dunas.
Mas mais complicado está a ser fotografar as miúdas com os vestidos. Não estão a querer cooperar. Acho que amanhã as vou subornar com uns chupa-chupas…

Aqui ficam as fotografias do vestido de alças cruzadas.
Está disponível para 18-24 meses, 4-5 anos e 6-7 anos. Pode ser feito para outras idades por encomenda numa série de cores diferentes (cor de rosa, azul, amarelo,…)

I finally started shooting my work.
Today it was cold and windy but there was also plenty of sunshine. It was not easy to keep the clothes in place, even sheltered by the sand dunes.
But the hardest part has been  shooting  the girls with the dresses. They are not willing to cooperate. I think tomorrow I'm going to bribe them with some lollipops ...
