NUTTA FABRIC SHOP BLOG TOUR

My good blogging friend Shino, from the sewing blog Nutta, has just opened a fabric shop where she sells gorgeous Japanese fabrics. I am so happy for her! And for us too because now we can buy super-ultra-special fabric from her.

I think I was one of her first costumers when, a couple of months ago, I bought this amazing quilted cotton. (I already have the perfect pattern for it so stay tuned!) Soon after that Shino contacted me asking if I would like to be part of her shop tour and, of course, I couldn’t say no. Since I had already bought fabric from her shop she also asked me if I wanted her to refund me from the money I had spent or if I would like her to give me another fabric. What a question?! Of course I wanted more fabric!
So I picked this amazing printed interlock. So special! So unique! I was in love!

Pattern: Hemlock Top by Elegance and Elephants (for Ines) and Climbing Flowers Tunic by Ottobre – Winter 2014 (for Teresa). Since I saw Rachel’s Hemlock tops I knew I wanted to make similar ones for my daughters and this was just the right fabric and print to do it. But Teresa wanted a simpler (no ruffles mum, please!) design… I knew I didn’t want to make just another regular tee so I picked Climbing Flowers Tunic from Ottobre’s new issue and turned it into a long sleeved tee.

Fabric: The “star fabric” is, of course, this printed interlock one from Nutta Fabric Shop. But the print is so special and strong I thought it would be nice to mix it with a bit of basic solid fabric. So, for Ines tee, I chose a mustard yellow cotton piquet thrifted from a man’s polo shirt bought at my local street market. But, once again, Teresa wanted something different… She wanted brown sleeves… So Teresa’s tee sleeves are made of cotton knit from my local store.

I have to say I like both shirts. And the best part is I get to dress my daughters in matching outfits, but each tee really express their styles right now: Ines is still quite a baby girl while Teresa already wants to be a pre-pre-teen…

Sewing with Nutta’s interlock was such a pleasure. You know I have just started sewing with knits and I have just bought a serger but these where such simple and fast garments to make even for a newbie…

MAILBOX SURPRISE . PETIT PAN BUTTONS AND PIPING

A série Mailbox Surprise chegou ao fim… Mas eu ainda tenho algo para mostrar.

 

Mailbox Surprise Series has come to an end... But I still have something to show you.

Além do tecido que usei para fazer estas blusas, a Marte enviou-me mais uma serie de coisas tão giras que não podiam ficar guardadas na gaveta.
Com o vivo e os botões forrados com o mesmo tecido fiz duas saias para as miúdas. Duas saias que, tenho a certeza, vão ser usadas de sol a sol durante todo o verão. Sabem porquê? Porque ao vivo e aos botões da Marte, juntei um dos meus tecidos preferidos: crepe de algodão com riscas, e um molde incrível: Ayashe Skirt da Figgy’s.

Besides the lovely fabric I used to make these shirts, Marte has also sent me some neat notions I could not leave forgotten in my very messy sewing supplies box.
So, with the piping and matching fabric covered buttons I made couple of skirts for Teresa and Ines. Two lovely skirts that I'm sure will be worn from sunrise to sunset throughout next summer. You know why? Because, to the piping and buttons, I added one of my favorite fabrics - striped seersucker - and an incredible pattern - Figgy’s Ayashe Skirt.

A saia da Inês foi feita primeiro e segui o molde à risca. Mais precisamente, quase à risca... Como a saia tem elástico ajustável na cintura, os botões da frente são falsos (detesto fazer casas de botões!) mas ficam bem na mesma, não ficam?

I made Ines skirt first and followed the pattern to the letter. More precisely, almost to the letter... As the skirt has adjustable elastic waistband, my skirt’s front buttons are fake (I hate making buttonholes!) This way the skirt is really easy to put on and looks great too!

Para a saia da Teresa já não tinha nem botões nem vivo suficiente para a carcela, resolvi fazer uma versão batoteira do molde original! Omiti a carcela, substituindo-a por um macho central, e usei o vivo e os botões nos bolsos. Ficou mais simples e se calhar vou ter que desencantar uma forma de lhe juntar um cinto, mas acho que não está nada mal.

For Teresa’s skirt I didn’t have enough buttons or piping to make the placket, so I’ve cheated a bit more! I omitted the placket, replacing it with a central inverted box pleat, and used the piping and buttons I had left for the pockets. The final result is a very simple and wearable skirt I am in love with. I think I will only have to find a way to add a belt to make it look perfect...

Estou fan incondicional dos tecidos e retrosarias da loja belga Petit Pan! (Estaria com toda a certeza arruinada de vivesse lá perto! Mas a loja on-line tem sido uma tentação...) Óptima qualidade com cores e padrões incríveis que não se encontram facilmente. Passem pela loja online e vejam com os vossos próprios olhos!

 A Ayashe Skirt é a minha segunda experiência Figgy’s – a primeira foi uma versão reversível do famoso SunkyDress – e não poderia estar mais contente com este molde. Acho que o vou repetir muitas e muitas vezes! Adoro o estilo da Figgy’s, mais radical e prá-frente (o “cool” e “edgy” do último post, lembram-se?) e parece-me que, à medida que as miúdas vão crescendo, os seus moldes vão ser um sucesso cá em casa.

This Belgian shop has great quality products, with incredible colors and patterns and I’m sure I would be ruined if I lived nearby! Ayashe Skirt is my second experience with Figgy 's patterns – I’ve made a reversible version of the famous Sunky Dress last winter - and I could not be happier with it. A Loja do Burel vende tecidos é uma das mais bonitas lojas novas do Chiado. Que mais se pode pedir?! Embora não seja propriamente uma loja de tecidos e menos ainda uma retrosaria, na cave da Loja do Burel é possível comprar burel – um tecido artesanal português feito totalmente em lã, semelhante ao feltro - de todas as cores e outros tecidos 100% lã. Tudo “Made in Portugal”!
A origem desta loja está numa empresa tradicional e muito antiga, a Lanifícios Império (“tecendo desde 1947”), que utiliza ainda máquinas e equipamentos tradicionais mas tem vindo a reinterpretar e reinventar o seu passado de forma a tornar os seus produtos mais contemporâneos. 

Loja do Burel is one of the coolest new concept stores in Chiado (a trendy shopping neighborhood in Lisbon) and it sells really nice and special fabric. What more can we ask for? While this shop is not exactly a fabric store or a haberdashery, it is possible to buy here Burel, a traditional Portuguese 100% fabric similar to felt, in every color you can imagine as well as some other wool fabrics. All "Made in Portugal"!
This store is owned by a traditional and very old company, Lanifícios Império ("weaving since 1947"), which still uses traditional machinery and equipment but has reinterpret and reinvented its past in order to make modern and stylish products.

A loja Marques, Serqueira não é uma loja igual às outras. Não tem montra para a rua nem placar com nome, fica num segundo andar da Praça da Figueira e, para lá chegar, passa-se atrvés de uma loja de malas e carteiras. Tem a graça de parecer uma loja secreta...

Marques, Sequeira is shop like no other. It does not have a proper shop window facing the street or a name at the entrance. It is actually located in the second floor of and old building in one of downtown Lisbon 's main squares and, to enter the shop, you have to pass throu another shop selling leather goods. I fell like a real seamstress going to a very secret shop when I visit Marques, Sequeira...

Normalmente passo por esta loja quando estou na Baixa para ver se encontro artigos de retrosaria vintage. Algumas vezes tenho sorte e outras não!

Entrar nesta loja é como voltar a trás no tempo. Parece uma loja do século passado (embora tenha produtos modernos, claro!),  com estantes em madeira maciça, empregados à antiga,... E adoro a ideia de ter que entrar pela loja de carteiras e malas e subir dois lances de escada para lá chegar.

Entering this shop is like going back in time. It looks like a shop from the 50' or the 60' (although its products are mainly modern, not vintage) with solid wood shelves, old fashion staff... And I absolutely love the idea of having to go through a  leather goods shops and climb two flights of stairs to get there.

Depois das férias o Thursday Shopping está de volta com uma loja que acabei de conhecer e adorei! Chama-se Atelier da Tufi e fica em Campo de Ourique, mesmo ao lado do Jardim da Parada.
O Atelier da Tufi é uma retrosaria mas não só. Além de fitas, tecidos e afins tem cadernos, lancheiras, brinquedos,... Tudo escolhido a dedo num espaço bem giro.

Christmas holidays are over and Thursday Shopping Series is back with a store I just met and loved! Atelier da Tufi is a very special shop in Campo de Ourique, a lively Lisbon residential neighborhood.
The great thing about this shop is that Atelier of Tufi isn’t only a haberdashery. Besides ribbons and fabric related products you will notebooks, lunch boxes, toys,... All handpicked in a super cute shop.

Comprei esta fita de viés de bolinhas (têm em todas as cores e com várias larguras) e esta fita espinhada que nunca tinha visto antes e adorei.

WHAT I USUALLY BUY AT ATELIER DA TUFII came across this shop through a Facebook sewing group (one of the owners invited me to come over when she saw one of this series’ posts) and I visited it once but, if it was closer to home, I'm sure I would be a regular customer...

WHAT I BOUGHT AT ATELIER DA TUFI LAST TIME I WENT THEREI bought this polka dot bias tape (they sell it in all colors and various widths) and this chevron ribbon I had never seen before and loved.

Com a desculpa de precisar MESMO de mais uma banal fita de viés para o próximo trabalho posso aproveitar e comprar uns presentes para mim que não são propriamente tecidos ou retrosaria... Gosto imenso da forma como esta loja junta todos estes produtos num só espaço.

With the excuse of needing some more everyday bias tape for my next sewing project, I have the perfect excuse to buy a (non sewing related) gift for me... I really like the way this store mixes and matches all these different products in just one place.

Last week there was no Thurday Shopping post as yesterday I a contributor to the wonderful series The 12 Days of Christmas. Today I am back to show you Ajour haberdashery, a shop is in the center of Cascais (a small seaside village near Lisbon where I live) specialized in sewing, crochet and knitting supplies for babies.

Gosto da qualidade da retrosaria. Tudo o que se vende aqui é bom (mesmo que nem sempre seja baratíssimo.) As fitas de viés de flores são as mais giras que encontrei até agora em Lisboa e arredores.

WHY DO I LIKE TO SHOP AT AJOUR
I like this shop mostly because it only carries good quality products. Even if, sometimes, its products are not a bargain, I think they are worth what they cost. The bias tape selection is the best I’ve found in Lisbon and surroundings. Type text or a website address or translate a document.
