Today’s shop is a very, very old Lisbon fabric shop located in the city’s downtown area (Baixa). It has over 100 years and it is called Tavares & Tavares.

O QUE COSTUMO COMPRAR NA TAVARES & TAVARES
A realidade é que fui pela primeira vez à Tavares & Tavares no princípio deste mês em busca de chitas, seguindo o conselho da Constança. Acabei por não as comprar mas gostei bastante de alguns tecidos de algodão e do entendimento simpático.
O QUE COMPREI NA TAVARES & TAVARES DA ÚLTIMA VEZ QUE LÁ ESTIVE
Infelizmente não posso mostrar agora a minha última compra nesta loja porque é o tecido que enviei para a minha amiga Marte… Mais precisamente, é o tecido que lhe enviei no âmbito da nossa série Mailbox Surprise. Passem pelo blog Compagnie M. nas próximas semanas para o verem.

PORQUE GOSTO DE IR À TAVARES & TAVARES
Só lá fui uma vez mas gostei da simpatia dos empregados “à antiga”. Fiquei com pena de não ter conhecido esta loja antes da remodelação. Devia ser a típica loja lisboeta de tecidos. Agora está de “cara lavada” e perdeu, talvez, um pouco da sua graça mas os tecidos continuam os mesmos e sei que vou lá voltar sempre que passar pela Baixa.

Por enquanto ainda não usei nenhum dos tecidos desta loja mas apenas porque só a conheci agora.

 

 

WHAT I USUALLY BUY AT TAVARES & TAVARES
Well, I have to confess that I went to Tavares & Tavares for the first time earlier this month in search of “chita” a typical Portuguese textile, following Constanca’s advice. I ended up not buying it but found some nice cotton fabric with lovely prints.

WHAT I BOUGHT AT TAVARES & TAVARES LAST TIME I WENT THERE
I’m sorry but I can’t show you the fabric I bought last time I was at this shop! Simply because it is my Mailbox Surprise to Marte from Compagnie M. and I don´t want to spoil the surprise. Please stop by Compagnie M. in the next couple of weeks and Marte will show you her new Portuguese fabric.
WHAT WOULD HAVE LIKED TO BUY LAST TIME I WENT TO TAVARES & TAVARES
I felt like buying the same fabric in all colors…
WHY DO I LIKE TO SHOP AT TAVARES & TAVARES
I actually only went to Tavares & Tavares once but I liked the attentive and old fashioned (in a good way) service. This store has just been refurbished and I would have loved to have known it before. I’m sure it was the typical Lisbon fabric store with dark wooden interiors with great vintage fabric. Now, after a big “face lift”, it is bright and shiny but it lost its patina… Nevertheless, the fabrics at Tavares & Tavares are still the same and I’m sure I will be back.

I didn’t have time yet to sew anything with this shop’s products because I’ve been there for the first time last week. But I will return soon and buy fabric for me so stay tuned!
